Eastern Michigan University men’s golf junior Charlie Box tied for the individual title at The Muirfield Shootout, using a strong finish with birdies on his final three holes to secure medalist honors and contribute to the team’s performance in the tournament.

Box, a native of Leicester, England, and former Hutchinson Community College standout, has emerged as one of the Eagles’ top performers during the 2025-26 collegiate season. His ability to close rounds with birdie surges has been a recurring theme in his recent successes, including a playoff victory at the West Bay Collegiate Invitational in October 2025 where he posted a second-round 63 — tying the program record — before clinching the title with a 20-foot birdie putt.

At The Muirfield Shootout, Box’s final-hole birdie barrage allowed him to tie for the individual lead, continuing a pattern of strong finishes that has defined his junior campaign. Earlier in the fall, he earned his third Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week honor in November 2025 after consistent top-tier performances, including a sixth-place finish at the Pearl at Kalauao Invitational and top-ten results in six of his first eight starts.

Box’s collegiate resume includes winning the 2025 NJCAA Division I National Championship at Hutchinson Community College, where he shot 5-under 283 to claim the title by one stroke and was later named the Arnold Palmer National Individual Champion Award recipient. He carried that momentum into his EMU debut, recording multiple top-three finishes and helping the Eagles achieve one of the third-lowest 54-hole scores in program history at the West Bay Collegiate Invitational.

Individually, Box maintains a World Amateur Golf Ranking of 354th as of August 15, 2025, and has reached as high as 320th in his career. He is also ranked No. 237 in Clippd. His scoring average for the 2025-26 season stands at 69.94, reflecting his consistency across events in both the United States and the United Kingdom, where he has competed in qualifying rounds for The Open Championship and the St. Andrews Links Trophy.

Box attended Wreake Valley Academy before his collegiate career and initially developed as a football player before taking up golf around age thirteen. His transition to golf has yielded rapid advancement, including four tournament wins at Hutchinson and recognition as a PING NJCAA Division I First Team All American.

As he continues his junior season at Eastern Michigan, Box remains a key contributor to the men’s golf program, blending international experience with collegiate competitiveness. His performance at The Muirfield Shootout adds to a growing list of top-10 finishes and medalist contributions that have positioned him among the Mid-American Conference’s leading players in 2025-26.
