Two men have been charged in connection with a corruption investigation, with authorities confirming they made no reply when formally charged. Detective Sergeant Paul Dowling and Kieran Kilcoyne were involved in the charging process.
Details of the Charges
The pair face charges brought under section 5 of the 2018 Criminal Justice (Corruption Offences) Act. These charges relate to alleged requests for details concerning three men.
court documents reveal that on March 2, 2022, at an undisclosed location, both men are accused of corruptly requesting a gift, consideration, or advantage. This was allegedly in exchange for a named Garda requesting confidential information about another person to be obtained and disclosed.
Further allegations against Mr. Ward include a similar offence on February 28,2022,concerning Garda information on a second individual.Additionally, Mr. Ward is accused of corruptly offering the same officer an inducement on the day prior, February 27, 2022, for performing an act related to his employment as a member of An Garda Síochána.
Additional Charges and Allegations
Mr. Ward also faces a charge under section 7 of the Criminal Law act 1997. This alleges that between october 15-17, 2019, he “did aid, abet, counsel or procure the commission” of an arrestable offense, specifically perverting the course of justice, committed by another person.
Separately, Mr. Carroll is accused of corruptly requesting a gift,consideration,or advantage on January 26,2022,at an unknown location. This request was allegedly made as of a Garda seeking confidential information regarding a search operation at the home of a third named man.
