Charlotte Kerner, CPA: AAFP Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President

Charlotte Kerner, CPA, serves as the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Business Performance for the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). In this capacity, she manages the financial operations of the nonprofit organization, which represents more than 130,000 family physicians, residents, and students.

The AAFP provides education, advocacy, and resources for patients and practices. According to the organization, its mission is to improve the health of patients, families, and communities by serving member needs with professionalism and creativity.

Kerner’s responsibilities at the AAFP include leading financial reporting, cash management, investments, and financial planning and analysis. She also serves on the organization’s commission on finance and its board of directors.

In addition to her financial oversight, Kerner leads the AAFP’s information technology division and works with other organizational leaders to improve business performance.

Kerner’s professional background includes seven years of experience as a certified public accountant at Price Waterhouse. She has also held financial leadership roles at several for-profit companies, including Beauty Brands, Applebee’s International, and Gear for Sports.

During her tenure in the private sector, Kerner executed business growth strategies and delivered profitability improvements. These results were achieved through the empowerment of teams, vendor negotiations, and process improvement.

Kerner holds both a Bachelors and Masters of Accounting degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia.

Her leadership experience includes service on the boards of Women Vision International and the Kansas City chapter of Financial Executives International.
