The 22-year-old right-hander has blazed through the minor leagues, showcasing a fastball that touches the upper 90s and a slider considered among the best in the minors. His promotion provides a jolt to the Reds as they chase a National League wild-card spot.
Before joining the professional ranks, Burns pitched for the Tennessee Volunteers in the SEC and later for Wake Forest in the ACC. across 13 minor league starts, including his most recent stint with Triple-A louisville, Burns has amassed a 7-3 record with a 1.77 ERA and 89 strikeouts over 66 innings.
