Located in the Golmud Kunlun Economic Development Zone at an altitude of 3,000 meters, the Qinghai Huadian Phase I project, featuring 2*660,000 kilowatt coal-fired power generation, has resumed work and production. This project is a critical component of China Huadian’s strategy to leverage Qinghai’s unique advantages in clean energy development.

In the Qaidam Basin, Huadian Dachaidan is actively clearing bottlenecks and difficulties for the 800,000-kilowatt source network load storage project department. The goal is to put the project into production within the year, coordinating with multiple parties to ensure its successful completion.

Future Prospects

The Qaidam Golmud East Desert Base, leveraging photovoltaics and wind power in the Qaidam Desert, Gobi, and desert areas of Haixi Prefecture, is set to construct a total scale of 1,924 ten thousand kilowatts. With an 85% proportion of new energy installed capacity, this base is poised to be a national leader in clean energy.

The base will be supported by Guangxi’s 4*660,000 kilowatt coal-fired power project, providing peak-shaving and frequency regulation support. The project plans to build 4 660,000 kilowatt high-efficiency ultra-supercritical indirect air-cooled coal-fired units, along with supporting infrastructure like a 750 kV transformer distribution device and dynamic investment of 11.5 billion yuan.

Economic and Environmental Benefits

In addition to its clean energy initiatives, Huadian Qinghai Company is exploring new energy base development paths, supporting the construction of new power systems. By combining resource endowments, the company innovates in the characteristic integrated development model of “multi-energy complementary,” making full use of the complementary and mutual assistance characteristics of various power supplies, adjusting a variety of power generation methods, and optimizing the scale ratio of various power supplies. This approach improves the quality of power.

The clean energy from the Qaidam Golmud East Desert Base, after being produced, will pass through ±800 kV and 8 million kilowatt capacity ultra-high voltage DC transmission lines, transmitting power to Guangxi and Qatar. This initiative will see Qinghai Green Power span thousands of miles, lighting up the region and contributing to a greener future.

Green Initiatives and Technology

The company has established the first hydrogen energy technology innovation center in the province and the Qinghai Provincial Hydrogen Energy Industry Development Promotion Association. This center will hold national construction and development events, promoting research on electrochemical energy storage and liquid flow energy storage. The company has built and produced the largest single-capacity electrochemical energy storage power station in the country and successfully put into operation the first plateau of Qinghai Province.
