Chelsea Names Club world Cup squad: Delap, Sarr, Essugo Included

Chelsea has announced it’s 28-man squad for the Club World Cup, featuring new acquisitions Liam Delap, Mamadou Sarr, and Dário Essugo. The team is preparing to face Club León of Mexico in atlanta on June 16 for their opening match.
Notably absent from the Chelsea Club World Cup squad are Raheem Sterling, João Félix, and Axel Disasi. Ben Chilwell was also omitted, while Christopher Nkunku was included despite questions surrounding his future with the club.
Delap’s inclusion means he will forgo participation in the U21 European Championship with England. He officially joined Chelsea from Ipswich Town on June 4.
Sterling spent last season on loan with Arsenal after Chelsea deemed him surplus to requirements. Félix, who permanently transferred from Atlético Madrid in 2024, was loaned to AC Milan during the January transfer window. Disasi spent the second half of the season on loan at Aston Villa, having made 37 appearances for Chelsea since 2023.
In other news, Jadon Sancho has returned to Manchester united after Chelsea chose not to exercise the option to make his loan deal permanent. Sancho confirmed his departure from Chelsea via social media last week.
