Shamrock Rovers’ Poom Scores Dream Goal at Stamford Bridge Amidst New ‍Dad Joy

Dublin, Ireland – Shamrock Rovers midfielder Markus Poom experienced a week he’ll never forget, scoring a ⁤memorable goal at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea just days after becoming a‍ father.Despite a 5-1 defeat to the Premier League giants in the⁢ UEFA Conference League, Poom’s strike provided a moment ‍of magic for the Hoops and their traveling supporters.

“It’s been the best week of my life,” Poom told RTE Sport after the game. “After‌ the game against Borac last week,my wife called to say her waters broke. I booked a flight ⁣to Estonia as quickly ⁢as I could and became a dad early Friday ‍morning. I‌ had three days with⁣ them before coming back to Dublin.”

Poom’s goal,‍ which leveled the score at 1-1 after 25 minutes, was a fitting tribute to his newborn child. “If you score at Stamford ⁢Bridge, I guess it’s worth it,” he said. “My wife⁢ knew this ‌was a once-in-a-lifetime ⁤thing, ‍and to⁤ score and ‍celebrate for ‍my‍ baby and⁢ my missus is ‌an amazing feeling.”

Chelsea,⁣ though, proved too strong, ultimately cruising to victory with a dominant performance. Marc Guiu bagged a hat-trick⁣ for the⁣ Blues, while joao Felix added a late ‌goal.

Despite the defeat, Shamrock Rovers can ⁤hold their heads high.⁤ they secured a historic place in the knockout stages of European competition for the first time, finishing tenth in the group.

“It’s a target that we set out to ‍do,” Poom added. “A lot of people didn’t believe we woudl do this well, but we achieved it. We came into this game with‍ almost no pressure,so we could enjoy it.”

Rovers captain Roberto Lopes echoed poom’s sentiments, acknowledging the ⁣tough challenge posed by Chelsea while expressing pride in the team’s achievements.

“We wanted to be more competitive in the game,” Lopes said. ⁢”We gifted two sloppy goals, but we’ll come back in the new year ⁤and hopefully create‌ more memories for our friends, families, and fans.”

looking ahead, Shamrock Rovers will face either ⁤TSC Backa Topola or Molde ⁢in the playoff round in February, aiming to secure a place in the ‌last 16.

“The game got away from us after [Poom’s goal],” Lopes admitted. “But it’s memories, and we can be proud of what we achieved so far. It’s the elite. You switch off or make one mistake, ⁣you get punished. And you see the players that they ⁤bring off the bench, like the Joao Felix’s of this world, but that’s where we have to strive to be. Tonight we weren’t‌ there, but ⁤come February, we need to ‍be ‌there.”
