Chen Zixian to Captain Taiwan in WBC Qualifier, Expresses Strong Sense of Mission
Taiwan Baseball Captain Chen Zixian to Lead Team in Classic Qualifying Round
Taipei, Taiwan – Taiwan’s national baseball team announced its 35-man roster for the upcoming World Baseball Classic qualifying round, with star player Chen Zixian once again leading the charge as captain. The announcement comes after a training session led by head coach Zeng Haoju, who noted the team’s youthful composition, with few players nearing 30 years old.
While the roster boasts promising young talent, the inclusion of Chen Zixian, the only player from the top 12 championship lineup, has sparked discussion. Chinese Professional Baseball League president cai Qichang expressed his support for Chen Zixian’s continued leadership, stating that his experience and dedication would be invaluable to the team.
“Chen Zixian expressed a strong will and sense of mission,” Cai Qichang said. “He wants to bring glory to the country and represent taiwan again. It would be arduous for the selection committee to reject such a passionate player.”
Cai Qichang acknowledged the demanding schedule facing Chen Zixian, who is also preparing for the upcoming top 12 championship. He emphasized the importance of rest and recovery for the star player, suggesting that his participation in the qualifying round would be a important contribution to the national team.
The decision to focus on younger players for the qualifying round also raises questions about the potential involvement of Taiwanese-descended Major League stars like Corbin Carroll and Stuart Fairchild. Cai Qichang indicated that inviting these players for the 2026 World Baseball Classic might be more appropriate, given their current commitments.
With the qualifying round approaching, all eyes are on Chen Zixian and the young Taiwanese squad as they aim to secure a spot in the main World Baseball Classic tournament.
