Chennai ⁤Braces for ⁢Heavy Rains as Low-Pressure System Forms in Bay ⁢of Bengal

Chennai, Tamil Nadu – The Indian Meteorological department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain warning for ⁢Chennai and surrounding areas, with an orange alert in effect for several districts in Tamil Nadu. The alert comes as a low-pressure⁣ area forms over the⁤ central Bay of Bengal, threatening to bring notable rainfall to ​the region over the next two days.

The IMD predicts that the low-pressure system ‍will intensify and move⁤ towards the coast in a west-northwesterly direction. This could result‍ in very⁣ heavy rainfall in⁤ Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, and Puducherry on Tuesday, December 19th.

Chennai,​ along with Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur districts, are also expected to experience heavy rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday. While light rain is expected to begin in Chennai around ‍1‍ pm on Tuesday,the heaviest downpours are anticipated on Wednesday.

“The impact of this system is highly likely to persist until the day after ⁣tomorrow,with rain continuing in ⁣many parts of Chennai on December 20th,” the IMD stated.

Along with Chennai and the districts mentioned above, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, and⁣ Karaikal are also expected to see very heavy ‍rainfall on Tuesday.On Wednesday, December 20th,​ very heavy rainfall ‍is forecast for Chennai, Chengalpattu, ⁤Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Cuddalore, Villupuram, and Puducherry.
