The Las Vegas Aces announced on April 15, 2026, that the team has signed guard Chennedy Carter to a training camp contract. The move brings the WNBA veteran back to the United States to compete for a roster spot with the three-time league champions ahead of the 2026 season.

Carter, a 5-9 guard and product of Texas A&M, provides the Aces with an experienced backcourt option and additional scoring depth off the bench. The deal allows Las Vegas to integrate a high-scoring veteran into their rotation without making a long-term commitment at this stage.

Career Trajectory and Performance

Carter entered the WNBA as the No. 4 overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft, selected by the Atlanta Dream. During her professional debut year, she established herself as an athletic playmaker, averaging 17.4 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game. These performances earned her a spot on the WNBA All-Rookie Team.

Following her first two seasons in Atlanta, Carter spent 2022 playing for the Los Angeles Sparks. She later joined the Chicago Sky, where she played during the 2024 season. In her time with Chicago, Carter recorded career highs across several categories, averaging 17.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals on 48.7 percent shooting. She finished the 2024 season as the leading scorer for the Sky, ranking 12th overall in the WNBA in scoring.

Over the course of 84 career WNBA games, Carter has maintained averages of 14.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists. However, she did not play in the WNBA during the 2025 season. Instead, she spent the year playing professionally in Mexico to remain active while seeking another opportunity in the United States.

Carter’s path back to the league followed a period of unrestricted free agency. After the 2024 season, the Chicago Sky did not provide her with a qualifying offer, making her an unrestricted free agent. She remained unsigned by any WNBA team throughout 2025 before the Las Vegas Aces offered her the training camp deal on April 15, 2026.

Aces Roster Construction

The addition of Carter comes as the Las Vegas Aces continue to bolster a roster built around core stars A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young, Chelsea Gray, and Jewell Loyd. The team has been active in securing veteran talent and championship-caliber players for the 2026 campaign.

Recent roster moves by the Aces include:

  • The re-signing of four-time WNBA MVP A’ja Wilson on a supermax deal, announced on April 15, 2026.
  • The signing of defensive specialist Brianna Turner and three-time Olympian Stephanie Talbot in free agency on April 13, 2026.
  • The signing of WNBA veteran Tiffany Mitchell on February 8, 2025.

By adding Carter to the training camp roster, the Aces are incorporating a player described as a walking highlight reel who could potentially contend for a starting position or provide explosive scoring from the bench.

History of Controversy

While recognized for her talent, Carter is noted as a polarizing figure within the league due to a history of disciplinary issues and public controversies. During her tenure in Atlanta, she was reportedly involved in an incident in 2021 where she challenged teammate Courtney Williams to a fight following a game.

Her time in Los Angeles was similarly marked by friction. Carter was benched halfway through the 2022 season due to what was described as poor conduct.

Most recently, Carter drew significant attention in June 2024 while playing for the Chicago Sky. She committed an away-from-the-ball shoulder check on Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark. The play was upgraded to a flagrant-1 foul and sparked widespread debate regarding physicality and the treatment of players in the WNBA.

Despite these incidents, the Las Vegas Aces have opted to give Carter an opportunity to compete for a spot on their lineup as they prepare for the 2026 season.
