Cheongju City to Conduct Bioterrorism Pathogen and Respiratory Virus Tests at Cheongwon Life Festival
Cheongju City has announced plans to conduct tests for bioterrorism pathogens and respiratory viruses at the Cheongwon Life Festival site, set to open on the 25th. This proactive measure aims to prevent infectious diseases and respond to bioterrorism threats.
The Cheongwon Life Festival, scheduled to open on the 27th, is a prominent local festival that attracts large crowds. In collaboration with the Chungbuk Institute of Health and Environment, Cheongju City will collect environmental samples and conduct air capture work at major event venues and public restrooms within the festival grounds.
The collected specimens will undergo testing for six types of bioterrorism pathogens, including anthrax, plague, and tularemia, as well as nine types of respiratory viruses, such as adenovirus and influenza virus, at the Chungbuk Health and Environment Research Institute. If any pathogens are detected, the quarantine team at the public health center will immediately disinfect the festival site.
Hong Jeong-ui, head of the infectious disease response division at Sangdang Health Center, emphasized the importance of preemptive infectious disease screening. “By conducting these tests, we will minimize the risk of infectious diseases during the festival period and create a safe environment for citizens to enjoy with peace of mind.” He also urged festival-goers to follow infectious disease prevention guidelines, including proper coughing etiquette.
