Chery to Potentially Manufacture Cars in UK Using Jaguar Land Rover Plant

China’s chery Automobile Co. is considering using a manufacturing plant owned by ⁤Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) in the United Kingdom⁢ to produce vehicles, a proposal⁢ supported by the UK government and slated for discussion‌ during ‌Prime Minister ‍Keir Starmer’s visit to Beijing⁢ next week.

According to ‌two individuals with knowledge of the discussions, ‌Chery would utilize an existing JLR facility to build cars in Britain.⁣ ⁣Three sources close to the negotiations confirmed⁣ the UK government has been actively seeking to attract Chery to establish vehicle production ‍within⁢ the country for⁤ the past several years.

Negotiations remain preliminary, and specific details are still under growth.‍ Though, Chery and JLR are scheduled to engage in exploratory⁣ talks during Starmer’s ‌trip to China – the first visit by a British Prime Minister in eight years. ⁢The delegation accompanying Starmer includes key buisness⁢ leaders.
