Chicago, IL – The Chicago Sky have a new leader at the helm, and he comes wiht a pedigree few can match. Tyler Marsh, the Sky’s new head coach, boasts a resume studded with championship rings and mentorship from some of the biggest names in basketball.
before landing in Chicago, Marsh was a key figure in Becky Hammon’s back-to-back WNBA championship runs with the Las Vegas Aces. Prior to that, he honed his skills under the tutelage of two NBA coaching giants: Nick Nurse of the Philadelphia 76ers and Rick Carlisle of the Indiana Pacers.
When both Nurse and Carlisle visited Chicago last weekend to face the Bulls, they expressed unwavering confidence in marsh’s ability to transform the Sky.
“Tyler’s got more rings than anybody sitting in this room right now, including me,” Nurse joked, playfully counting out Marsh’s four championship titles – one in the D-League, one in the NBA, and two in the WNBA.”He’s almost got a full handful.”
Nurse’s faith in Marsh stems from their long-standing relationship. Nurse hired Marsh for his first job out of college with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the D-League (now the G League). Marsh’s dedication was evident from the start, always available to shuttle players to the training facility and spend hours refining their skills.
That dedication paid off, with the Vipers clinching the D-League title that year. The victory propelled Nurse to an assistant role with the Toronto Raptors, but he never forgot Marsh’s contributions. When Nurse took over as head coach of the Raptors in 2018, Marsh was one of his first hires. Together, they secured another championship ring.Nurse quickly learned that Marsh’s commitment to excellence was a family affair. donnie Marsh, Tyler’s father and a lifelong college coach, was a constant presence at practices, meticulously taking notes and absorbing every detail.
“That’s just how the Marsh family is,” Nurse observed. “They have an insatiable hunger to learn and a remarkable attention to detail.”
Carlisle echoed this sentiment. When he took over the Pacers in 2021, he retained Marsh, a rare move for incoming coaches. Carlisle recognized Marsh’s coaching potential but was equally impressed by his quiet leadership.
“He’s a man of few words, but when he speaks, people listen,” Carlisle said. “He gains respect very quickly.”
Now, Marsh is ready to forge his own path in Chicago. he aims to draw inspiration from his mentors, incorporating hammon’s communication style, Carlisle’s strategic brilliance, and Nurse’s fearless approach.
As the Sky embark on a new era under Marsh’s leadership, the echoes of his championship pedigree and the unwavering support of his mentors will undoubtedly guide his journey.
From NBA Sidelines to WNBA Spotlight: Tyler Marsh Embraces Fearless Coaching
Chicago, IL – The Chicago Sky have a new leader at the helm, and he’s bringing a unique brand of “fearless” coaching honed in the high-pressure crucible of the NBA. Tyler Marsh, formerly an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors,is stepping into the head coaching role for the Sky,bringing with him a philosophy that prioritizes innovation and calculated risk-taking.
Marsh’s appointment follows a growing trend of NBA assistants making the leap to the WNBA, joining the ranks of Becky Hammon (Las Vegas Aces) and Nate Tibbetts (Phoenix Mercury). This movement speaks volumes about the evolving landscape of basketball coaching, where experience and tactical acumen are valued across leagues.”I hope he gets some of it,” said Nick Nurse, Marsh’s former boss with the Raptors, referring to marsh’s fearless approach. “Moast of that comes — for me — out of necessity. You just kind of look out there and say, ‘We don’t have any choice but to try this right now.’ And you go for it. Some of it works. Some of it doesn’t.You don’t have to be afraid to try something a little different, to try things on the fly and throw things in the game that your team’s never practiced before if you can get them to buy in.”
Nurse vividly recalls a moment during the 2019 NBA Finals when Marsh, alongside the coaching staff, devised a daring box-and-one defense to contain Steph Curry. While the tactic didn’t secure a win in Game 2, it exemplified the team’s willingness to embrace unconventional strategies.
This willingness to push boundaries is something Nurse believes will serve Marsh well in the WNBA.
“There are differences between the WNBA game and the NBA game, but it’s very compelling to watch,” said Rick Carlisle, head coach of the Indiana Pacers. “The coaching is at a very high level. The WNBA head jobs, to me, would be jobs that would be very attractive to NBA assistants.”
The allure of WNBA head coaching positions is undeniable, but the financial disparity between the leagues remains a significant hurdle. While NBA head coaches command multi-million dollar salaries, WNBA head coaches earn considerably less.this gap may deter some assistants, but for those like Marsh, the chance to lead and shape a team’s destiny outweighs the financial considerations.
As the WNBA continues to grow in popularity and revenue, the league is poised to attract even more top-tier coaching talent from the NBA. Marsh’s arrival in Chicago marks another chapter in this exciting evolution, promising a fresh perspective and a fearless approach to the game.
Tiny Home, Big Dreams: Couple Trades Traditional life for Minimalist Oasis
A growing number of Americans are ditching sprawling houses for compact living, seeking a simpler, more lasting lifestyle.
For Sarah and Mark thompson, the American dream didn’t involve a white picket fence and a two-car garage. Instead, it looked a lot like 300 square feet of meticulously designed living space. The couple recently traded their spacious suburban home for a custom-built tiny house, a decision driven by a desire for financial freedom, environmental consciousness, and a simpler way of life.
“We were tired of the constant upkeep and expenses of our big house,” Sarah explained. “We realized we were spending more time working to pay for it than actually enjoying it.”
Their tiny home, nestled on a plot of land in rural Oregon,is a testament to thoughtful design and minimalist living. Every inch is utilized, with clever storage solutions and multi-functional furniture. Sunlight streams through large windows, creating an airy and inviting atmosphere.
“It’s amazing how much space you actually need,” Mark said. “We’ve decluttered our lives and focused on what truly matters.”
The thompsons are not alone. The tiny house movement is gaining momentum across the U.S., fueled by rising housing costs, a desire for sustainability, and a yearning for a less materialistic lifestyle.
Tiny homes offer a range of benefits, from reduced environmental impact to increased financial adaptability. Many tiny house dwellers report lower utility bills, less debt, and the freedom to travel and pursue their passions.
“It’s not just about the size of the house,” Sarah added. “It’s about simplifying your life and focusing on experiences rather than possessions.”
The thompsons’ journey is a compelling example of how tiny living can lead to a more fulfilling and meaningful life.Their story resonates with a growing number of Americans seeking a break from the traditional mold and a chance to redefine what it means to live well.
While tiny living may not be for everyone, the Thompsons’ experience highlights the growing appeal of a simpler, more intentional way of life. As they settle into their new home, they are living proof that sometimes, less is truly more.
