Chiesi’s NICU Campaign: Raising Awareness for Premature Births and Their Impact
Premature Births: A Journey of Vulnerability and Resilience
Table of Contents
Chiesi, a biopharmaceutical company based in Parma, Italy, runs the campaign Unscripted Beginnings. A Fragile Start, a Strong Future. This initiative addresses the challenges and hopes around premature births.
After World Prematurity Day on November 17, the campaign highlights the experiences of families, healthcare professionals, and the essential role of neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).
Philip Breesch, Executive Vice President of Franchise Care at Chiesi, and Giulio Di Sturco, director of the documentary The Edge of Life, discuss this campaign.
The Objective of the Unscripted Beginnings Campaign
Philip Breesch: The goal is to raise awareness about prematurity. We want to show both the challenges and hopes found in NICUs.
By illustrating the fragility and resilience of premature babies, we stress the need for specialized care to give them a strong start and bright future.
Chiesi’s Support for Neonatal Care
Philip Breesch: For over thirty years, Chiesi has supported neonatology. We work with healthcare professionals to improve outcomes for premature infants.
We invest in research and treatments to enhance neonatal care. We also share best practices and empower NICU teams and families.
Inspiration Behind The Edge of Life
Giulio Di Sturco: The project began unexpectedly during a trip to Tuscany. There, I met Charles Roehr, a neonatology expert. He recognized my premature daughter’s unique pacifier, which inspired me to document the world of neonatology.
Initially a photography project, it became a film after I spent time in a Bristol NICU. I wanted to capture the sounds and emotions of this unique space.
Main Objective of the Documentary
Giulio Di Sturco: The documentary aims to provide a close look at premature neonatal care. It will explore not just the medical aspects but also the emotional experiences of everyone involved.
We want to show the intensity and dedication of doctors, nurses, and families. This project is my way of giving back to those who helped us during our journey.
