qista, a company based in Senas, France, and the French Red cross are collaborating to protect vulnerable children from chikungunya in Saint-Gilles, Réunion. The partnership focuses on preventative measures at the MECS Les Filaos, a residential care facility operated by the French Red Cross that houses 24 children under the protection of the child welfare system.
Qista donated two Qista ONE devices to MECS Les Filaos. These devices are designed to aid in chikungunya prevention efforts, wich are particularly vital given ongoing transmission of the virus on the island.
The donation comes after a significant chikungunya outbreak in 2025 resulted in 43 deaths in Réunion, according to the Réunion regional government. Chikungunya is a mosquito-borne viral disease that can cause fever and severe joint pain.
“Many factors contribute to the spread of chikungunya, and protecting vulnerable populations like children is a major priority,” saeid a spokesperson for the French Red Cross. “This donation from Qista will help us strengthen our preventative measures.”
Sources say the Qista ONE devices will be used to monitor mosquito populations and provide early warnings about potential outbreaks. The French red Cross is implementing a number of strategies to combat the virus, including mosquito control programs and public awareness campaigns.
Recently, health officials have emphasized the importance of preventative measures, such as using mosquito repellent and wearing long sleeves and pants, especially during peak mosquito activity hours.
