Chile Pioneers Para Table Tennis Integration in Latin America
Santiago, Chile – Chile has emerged as a regional leader in Para table tennis, marked by its prosperous hosting of the ITTF World Para Future Santiago de chile 2025.The tournament highlights a strategic integration process, shifting governance and boosting the sportS profile.
Before 2024, the National Paralympic Committee (Copachi) oversaw Para table tennis in Chile. Inspired by the ITTF’s integration model from 2007, the national federation, Fechiteme, initiated a change to reshape the sport’s landscape.
Fechiteme began a model integration in 2023, guided by ITTF experts Omar Refaat and Carlos Esnard. They utilized the ITTF Para table tennis integration online service, a training program designed to navigate transition challenges. The training addressed institutional restructuring, sport technical growth, and financial management.
The collaborative spirit between Fechiteme, Copachi, and the National Institute of sport (IND) was key to Chile’s success. This ensured professional knowledge transfer and athlete protection throughout the transition of Para table tennis governance.
The transfer of governance did not end partnerships. Fechiteme recognized Copachi’s experience in classification and IPC regulations, fostering ongoing collaboration.
