Chilean workers are seeing a boost in their incomes at the start of 2026, with a newly implemented minimum wage increase. Effective January 1st, the monthly minimum income has risen to CLP 539,000 for those aged 18 to 65, a CLP 10,000 increase from the previous rate.

This adjustment is part of a phased series of increases designed to strengthen the purchasing power of workers in the face of the current economic climate, continuing an upward trend that began in 2022.

Wage Adjustments for Other Age Groups

The increase wasn’t limited to the primary wage bracket. Workers under 18 and those over 65 were also included in the wage update. For this segment, the minimum monthly income was set at CLP 402,082, an increase of CLP 7,460.

With these figures, the minimum wage continues to move away from the CLP 350,000 that was in effect in May 2022, reflecting agreements reached between the Government and the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT) in recent years.

Future Minimum Wage Increases

Although the latest increase took effect just weeks ago, a new date is already marked on the legislative agenda. According to Law 21.751, the President of the Republic must submit a new bill to the National Congress, no later than April 2026, contemplating a further adjustment to the minimum monthly income.

The initiative will also include updates to family and maternity allowances, as well as the family subsidy, with the aim of having the new values come into effect on May 1, 2026. To determine the amounts, the Executive Branch must consider the guidelines of the Superior Labor Council, seeking consistency between wage growth and the country’s economic situation.

This upcoming process will be key for nearly 900,000 workers nationwide, who could see their incomes adjusted again during the first half of the year.

The changes come as Chile continues to navigate economic shifts and prioritize the financial well-being of its workforce. The phased approach to wage increases, coupled with adjustments to family benefits, signals a commitment to supporting vulnerable populations and fostering economic stability.

Employers are advised to review their payroll systems and employment contracts to ensure compliance with the new minimum wage regulations. The updates to family and maternity allowances also require attention to ensure accurate benefit calculations and reporting.

The upcoming legislative proposal in April 2026 will be closely watched by both employers and employees, as it will set the stage for future wage adjustments and further refine the country’s labor policies. The Superior Labor Council’s input will be crucial in determining a fair and sustainable wage level that balances the needs of workers with the economic realities of the nation.
