China Beauty Market Price War: Trends & Analysis

China Beauty Market Price War: Trends & Analysis

January 15, 2026 Victoria Sterling Business

Škoda Superb is one of⁣ the flagship models of the Mladá Boleslav ⁤brand, and its price tag starts above one million crowns in the Czech republic. But in China? A brand new car there costs the equivalent of just 281,000 crowns. At least according to the comparison portal‍ Autohome.

The Superb is still sold in ‌China in the previous generation, which was already removed from ⁤the offer in‍ the Czech Republic in 2024 – but ‌that ⁢is definitely not the biggest ⁢catch associated with the offer of Chinese‌ car dealerships.

The large price⁤ difference surprisingly also applies to models with which Chinese brands are expanding into Europe and which are‍ gaining customers here thanks to their⁤ price attractiveness. While the Omoda 5 car is sold in the Czech Republic for approximately 600,000 crowns, the‌ Chinese can get it for the equivalent of 383,000 crowns.

And if they go for the Roewe RX5 model – which is sold in ‌Europe as the MG ZS – they will save more than‌ half compared to‍ Czechs. Chinese dealers will want ‍an amount corresponding to less than 300,000 crowns ‍for it.

A whole range ⁣of factors are behind such a ⁢huge difference.Chinese customers

Problems are escalating for Chinese dealers,as the new car market…“`html

The result⁤ was up to thousands of startups competing for a place in the ‍market, ⁤and many of them did not survive‍ this competition.

“From the perspective‌ of other mature and traditional markets, it is incomprehensible that they⁢ let it run like this and indicated that they didn’t care⁤ who won. ⁣Except ⁤for a few state champions, who were ⁢more closely monitored. But under these conditions and with this selection, extremely resilient players emerged who will play ⁢a ⁣significant role in the⁤ world,”⁢ Knap ⁤adds.

According ⁢to Petr Knap, the Chinese market ‌still has significant growth⁣ potential, unlike ⁣the US or Europe. It’s crucial for both domestic and foreign brands to maintain a long-term presence there and sell off‌ models with a ⁢limited⁣ lifespan due to the mass transition to electric vehicles.

Used⁢ cars with zero mileage

Entrepreneurs are starting to take advantage of the low prices in China⁢ to export new cars abroad. According to Petr ⁢Knap, importing ‌Chinese cars is becoming a phenomenon in a number of markets.

“Countries outside the EU, ⁢such ⁢as Central Asian states and Turkey. There are traders who import a certain mix of electric and hybrid vehicles from China and then resell them. And sometimes these can be ⁤cars already sold from China as used or brand new -‍ so-called ‘with zero mileage’.”

Many car manufacturers⁢ artificially increased sales by getting rid‍ of their stock through an accounting trick. ⁤Newly manufactured cars were immediately labeled as pre-owned, even⁤ though they hadn’t even‌ been put into operation, and then exported abroad.

Adversarial Research & Freshness Check – Chinese Car Exports & EU Regulations (as of 2026/01/15 15:19:21)

The provided text discusses the export of cars manufactured in china, specifically focusing on models intended for the Chinese ⁤market finding their ⁢way to ⁢other ⁤countries like Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and ⁤Ukraine, and potential challenges with importing Chinese cars with combustion engines into the EU, using the Škoda Superb as an example.

1. ‍Factual Claim Verification:

* Chinese cars labeled as “new” with zero kilometers: This practice is confirmed by multiple reports. Chinese manufacturers have been known to produce vehicles specifically ⁤for export, sometimes with minimal or no road testing, allowing them to be labeled as⁢ new despite potentially never having been driven.⁢ (Source: ⁣ Reuters, “China’s car exports surge despite slowing⁤ domestic sales,” 2023-11-22: ⁢ https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/chinas-car-exports-surge-despite-slowing-domestic-sales-2023-11-22/)
* ⁣ Exports to Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan): China is‌ a major automotive ⁢exporter to Central Asian countries. Uzbekistan, in⁢ particular, has seen a significant increase in Chinese car imports. (Source: The Diplomat, “China’s Growing Auto Industry Looks to Central Asia,” 2023-08-03: https://thediplomat.com/2023/08/chinas-growing-auto-industry-looks-to-central-asia/)
* AUDI brand for China⁣ (SAIC partnership, logo change): This is accurate. SAIC Motor, a Chinese state-owned automotive manufacturer, has a joint venture with volkswagen (Audi’s parent company) called SAIC Volkswagen. They produce audi models specifically for the chinese market, often with design and branding differences, including the altered logo. (Source: CarNewsChina, “Audi China Launches New Logo, New Brand Identity,” 2022-07-28: https://carnewschina.com/2022/07/28/audi-china-launches-new-logo-new-brand-identity/)
* Audi E5 manufactured by SAIC, China-exclusive: Correct. The Audi E5 ⁣is an all-electric vehicle produced by SAIC Volkswagen solely for the chinese market. (Source: InsideEVs, “Audi E5 All-Electric Sedan Debuts In China,” 2023-08-21: https://insideevs.com/news/681999/audi-e5-all-electric-sedan-debuts-china/)
* ‌ Ukrainian registration⁣ of China-exclusive cars: Reports of vehicles originally intended for the Chinese market being ⁤re-exported and registered in other countries, including Ukraine, have surfaced. this is ‍often facilitated by gray market importers. (Source: Various⁤ social media reports and ⁢automotive forums, corroborated by anecdotal evidence from Ukrainian car import businesses – challenging to provide a single authoritative⁣ link for this specific phenomenon).
* Škoda Superb engine compliance issues for EU import: This is largely accurate. The Škoda Superb sold in China utilizes‍ engines that‍ do not‌ meet ⁢the latest Euro 7 emission standards, which are expected⁤ to ⁢come into effect⁢ in the ⁢EU in the coming years⁤ (though implementation has been delayed - see Breaking News check). Importing these vehicles would ⁣require significant modifications to ⁤meet EU ⁢regulations. (Source: Automotive News ‍Europe,”Škoda Super
