China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair 2024: Highlights from Opening Weekend

The 11th China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair (CCBF) started on November 15. It takes place at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. This year marks six years of collaboration with Italy’s Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

The fair buzzed with activity. Attendees reunited with colleagues and explored various booths. A highlight was a panel on graphic fiction led by Jacks Thomas. During the discussion, Thomas celebrated author Samantha Harvey’s recent win of the Booker Prize for her novel Orbital. Jackie Huang, a literary agent, represents Harvey’s work in multiple Asian markets, which Thomas was surprised to learn.

This fair continues to grow, attracting more visitors and exhibitors. A planned seminar on November 16 will feature historian Alessandro Barbero discussing Marco Polo’s influence. This session will display books related to Polo’s life and adventures.

Among notable attendees were members of the Emirates Publishers Association and various international publishers. Vibrant displays and the warmth of the venue added to the fair’s inviting atmosphere, promising an engaging experience for local visitors and book lovers.
