China’s E-commerce Market Sees Significant Growth in 2023
According to the “Results of big data analysis on the regional development of Chinese e-commerce” report, people aged 31-40 are the main force of consumption in China’s e-commerce market. This demographic uses a relatively high proportion of consumption to improve their lives. The report also highlights that 24-30 year olds maintain a high level of interest in digital products and furniture, while 41-50 year olds account for a relatively high proportion of cultural and entertainment consumption.
The report reveals that the total value of online goods sales across China in 2023 increased by 10.11% compared to 2022. Lifestyle products, including daily appliances, fresh food, and cosmetics, are the top-selling e-commerce consumption products across the country, with shares of 22.54%, 20.45%, and 9.9%, respectively.
In terms of regional development, Zhejiang Province, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Fujian, Shandong, and Shanghai are at the forefront of e-commerce development in China. By 2023, these six provinces had a combined e-commerce trade volume of 82.25% of the whole of China, while the sales value accounted for 83.37% of the whole country.
The report also highlights the growing importance of live broadcasting in the e-commerce market. Live broadcasting has developed into an important channel for online shopping, particularly in the areas of live games, travel, art, performance, and language learning. This format offers users high-quality live content in a variety of formats.
