China’s Island Power Play: Vietnam Pushes Back Against Military Build-Up on Tri Ton Island
Vietnam Opposes China’s Deployment of Military Equipment on Hoang Sa Archipelago
Vietnam has strongly opposed China’s deployment of military equipment on Tri Ton Island in the Hoang Sa archipelago, citing a serious violation of its sovereignty.
At a recent press conference, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Doan Khac Viet, expressed Vietnam’s extreme concern over the situation. He emphasized that Vietnam strongly opposes all activities that violate its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago.
Vietnam is committed to protecting its sovereignty through peaceful means, in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). The country is determined to resolve the issue through diplomatic channels and in a manner that respects the rights and interests of all parties involved.
Regarding the recent attacks on Vietnamese fishermen by Chinese authorities, Mr. Viet reaffirmed that Hoang Sa belongs to Vietnam. He condemned the illegal arrest of Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen in Hoang Sa waters, stating that it is a serious violation of Vietnam’s sovereignty and a breach of the legitimate rights and interests of Vietnamese fishermen.
“Vietnam resolutely opposes and demands that China fully respect Vietnam’s rights to the Hoang Sa archipelago,” Mr. Viet stated. “We demand that China immediately release all illegally detained Vietnamese fishing vessels and fishermen, provide adequate compensation for all damage, and take measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.”
Vietnam’s stance on the issue is clear: it will continue to protect its sovereignty and the rights of its citizens, while promoting a peaceful and stable resolution to the situation.
