Shang Juncheng and Buyun Chaoket Receive Wild Cards for 2024 China Open Men’s Singles Main Draw

China News Service, Beijing, September 21. The 2024 China Open announced the ownership of three men’s singles wild cards, including two Chinese “post-00” rising stars Shang Juncheng and Buyun Chaoket, and three-time Grand Slam champion Wawrinka.

Shang Juncheng recently defeated former US Open runner-up Kei Nishikori in the men’s singles second round of the ATP 250 Chengdu Open. He participated in the China Open for the first time last year with a wild card and was eliminated in the first round of the men’s singles after a three-set battle. At that time, he was ranked only 160th.

This year, Shang Juncheng reached the third round of the Australian Open and the US Open, and the second round of Wimbledon. His world ranking rose to 66th, creating a new career high, nearly 100 places higher than last year. Previously, he said in an interview that he had made full preparations for the Chinese season and looked forward to a better performance in the China Open this year.

Buyunchaoket recently defeated the No. 2 seed, Russian star Khachanov, in the ATP250 Hangzhou Open and entered the quarterfinals of the tour for the first time in his career. He also made a breakthrough in the Grand Slam this year, winning three consecutive games in the US Open qualifying, entering the Grand Slam main draw for the first time, and ranking 113th, a career high.

If he performs well in the Chinese season, Buyun Chaoket is expected to enter the top 100, laying a solid foundation for qualifying for the Australian Open next year. Together with Zhang Zhizhen, the runner-up in the mixed doubles of the Paris Olympics, who directly qualified based on his ranking, the audience will see at least three male players from mainland China at this year’s China Open.

The 2024 China Open men’s singles qualifying round will be held on September 24 and 25, and the main competition will start on September 26.
