BEIJING – Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated Sunday that China remains committed to the correct direction of economic globalization
amid increasing fragmentation
of the global economy, as trade tensions with the U.S. intensify.
Speaking at an economic forum in Beijing to business leaders and multinational executives, Li’s comments come as former U.S.President Donald Trump has imposed new tariffs on Chinese exports.
Li said China would remain firm on the right side of the story and act fairly
at the meeting.
He added that China will practice a true multilateralism and strive to be a stability and certainty force.
The China Advancement Forum hosts business leaders from China and around the world, including Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Referencing the renewed trade friction, Li said that the fragmentation of the current global economy is intensifying
and that instability and uncertainty are at its maximum point.
Li, who also met with U.S. Senator Steve Daines, called for dialog
between Beijing and Washington. Daines’ visit is seen as an attempt to ease strained relations.
