Gaikindo reported that wholesale car sales (distribution from factories to dealers) reached 70,892 units in March, a decrease from the 72,336 units sold the previous month. Though, retail sales saw a temporary increase of 9.6%, climbing from 69,872 units to 76,582 units.
Q1 2025 Sales Show Overall Decline

Daihatsu secured the second position with wholesale sales of 13,057 units, an increase from the 11,959 units sold the previous month. Retail sales for Daihatsu reached 13,111 units, up 4.9% from February.
Honda Completes Top Three
Honda rounds out the top three best-selling brands in Indonesia. Wholesale sales reached 6,303 units, a 28% decrease from the previous month. However, retail sales saw an increase to 8,165 units in March, a 5.3% rise.
Chinese Brands Experiance Significant Growth
Several Chinese brands experienced notable growth in March. BYD, an electric car brand, saw a significant increase of 129.1%. Wholesale sales for BYD reached 3,205 units, compared to 1,399 units the previous month. retail sales reached 2,870 units, up 1,382 units from February.
Aion also experienced a surge, with sales increasing by 503.1% compared to February. aion distributed 959 units in March, compared to only 159 units the previous month.
Other Chinese brands showing gains include Chery, DFSK, Geely, Neta, Baic and Haval.
Wuling Sales Decline Slightly
Wuling, ranked tenth in sales, recorded 1,850 units sold in March, a 4.4% decrease compared to the previous month.
Gaikindo Comments on Market Sluggishness
The indonesian Automotive Industry Association (Gaikindo) attributed the sluggish car sales in early 2025 to decreased purchasing power and buying interest.
