Zhang Yixing’s Concert at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Draws Massive Crowds

Beijing’s National Stadium, commonly known as the Bird’s Nest, recently hosted a spectacular concert by Chinese singer and actor Zhang Yixing, captivating tens of thousands of spectators. The event, part of his “Uncharted Waters 5: Monkey King Makes Trouble in Heaven” tour, was described as a vibrant fusion of traditional Chinese culture and modern music, creating an atmosphere of immense energy and excitement.

Zhang Yixing, also known professionally as Lay Zhang, has become a prominent figure in the Chinese entertainment industry. Born Zhang Jiashuai on October 7, 1991, he first gained recognition after participating in the Chinese talent show Star Academy in 2005. He later joined the South Korean-Chinese boy band Exo and its Chinese sub-unit Exo-M in 2012, under SM Entertainment.

According to reports, Zhang was among the first Chinese K-pop stars to return to China and play a key role in developing the idol scene within the country’s entertainment landscape. In 2015, he established a studio under SM Entertainment to manage his solo activities in China. He also appeared as a cast member on the Chinese reality show “Go Fighting!” from 2015 to 2018.

The concert at the Bird’s Nest showcased Zhang Yixing’s versatility as an artist. He is known not only for his musical talents – encompassing C-pop, hip-hop, K-pop, R&B, and EDM – but also for his acting roles in films and television dramas. His acting credits include “The Mystic Nine” (2016), “Kung Fu Yoga” (2017), “The Island” (2018), “Winter Begonia” (2020), and “No More Bets” (2023).

The scale of the concert was significant. A Facebook post indicated that approximately 160,000 people attended the two-day event, with 1.6 million individuals attempting to secure tickets. This demonstrates Zhang Yixing’s widespread popularity and the considerable demand to see him perform live.

Zhang Yixing’s success extends beyond entertainment. In 2020, he founded Chromosome Entertainment Group, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen. He has also received recognition for his achievements, being ranked 20th in the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list in 2017, 11th in 2019, 5th in 2020, and 6th in 2021.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Zhang Yixing has also been involved in cultural exchange. He served as a guest host for UN News and took viewers on a tour of the Lunar New Year celebrations at the United Nations headquarters in New York. This involvement highlights his commitment to promoting Chinese culture on an international stage.

The United Nations headquarters in New York recently hosted a Lunar New Year gala, drawing over 500 attendees, including UN officials, ambassadors, and staff members. The event featured performances by Chinese UN employees and their families, showcasing traditional Chinese arts such as Beijing Opera and the playing of the Chinese zither. The celebration included interactive activities like Chinese calligraphy, where attendees could write characters meaning luck and happiness.

While details regarding any recent injuries to members of Exo were reported, these do not appear to be directly related to Zhang Yixing or his recent concert activities.
