Chippewa Falls’ Azul Shines at the National Dog Show: A Tibetan Mastiff’s Journey to Stardom
Chippewa Falls Dog Competes in National Dog Show
Nearly 2,000 dogs are participating in the National Dog Show. One standout from this group lives in Chippewa Falls. His name is Azul, a 1-year-old Black Feather Tibetan Mastiff. He is a Grand Champion recognized by the American Kennel Club.
Azul is known for his calm demeanor. His co-owner, Nicholas Stabenow-Schneider, describes the breed as “the cats of the dog world.” Dogs like Azul only act when it makes sense to them.
Azul began competing in dog shows as a puppy. Stabenow-Schneider and his husband, after getting their first Tibetan Mastiffs, decided to enter shows. They found it enjoyable and succeeded in various competitions. They entered the National Dog Show because it takes place on Thanksgiving Day.
The National Dog Show is a four-day event. The main competition occurs on Saturday, November 16. During the show, breed competitions determine the Best of Breed. Later, group competitions take place and are televised.
Azul is judged on how closely he matches breed standards. Grooming is essential for his appearance. Stabenow-Schneider and his husband take care of Azul’s grooming. They use a grooming table to brush and blowout his fur weekly. Many people admire Azul’s hair. Children often ask if he is a lion or a bear.
Azul won the title of Best of Breed at the show. He competed in the working group. A Tibetan Mastiff has never placed in the working group at the National Dog Show, so this is a notable achievement. Viewers can watch the show on Thanksgiving Day from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on NBC. Tune in to see if Azul makes history this year.
