New York – Jazz Chisholm Jr. made a triumphant return from a strained oblique, hitting a tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning to propel the New York Yankees to a 3-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on tuesday. Chisholm’s clutch hit, a 358-foot shot to right-center, marked his first game back since April 29.
“Our hitting coach told me a story about Reggie Jackson,” Chisholm said, recounting a tale about a barely-cleared home run. “He was like, ‘Hey, Reggie, how did you no that was gone?’ And he’s like, ‘Well, I hit 567 (actually 563) of them.’ So I told my coach, my story is that I’ve hit 1,000 homers in my dreams, so I had to know that one was gone, right?”
Chisholm, who finished 2-for-3, also singled in the fifth and scored on DJ LeMahieu’s single. Shortly after Chisholm’s homer, Anthony Volpe added another solo shot, marking the fifth time this season the Yankees have hit back-to-back home runs. The Yankees’ offense, boosted by Chisholm’s return, provided just enough to secure the win.
Manager Aaron Boone shifted Chisholm back to third base, his position last year, despite Chisholm’s previous starts at second.Chisholm embraced the move, emphasizing his team-first mentality. “This is my favorite organization I’ve ever been a part of,” Chisholm said, adding, “I just want to win. I want a ring.”
Volpe praised Chisholm’s versatility and impact.”Everyone’s really pumped for him and happy for us that he’s back helping us,” Volpe said. “He’s just so smooth and has such a great arm that you can play wherever you want to play with him over there.”

chisholm showcased his defensive skills at third, fielding a tough grounder and making a strong throw to first. He used a distinctive baby blue glove from his company, ARIA, intended for Father’s Day. Despite his .194 batting average, Chisholm’s energy and personality are a welcome addition to the Yankees clubhouse.
Devin williams, returning as closer, earned his sixth save despite allowing a run in the ninth. The Yankees, now leading the AL East, have won 11 of their last 14 games.
“Really excited to have him back and good to see him have that kind of impact right away,” Boone said.
