Choi Min-hee, who said, “I’ll kill you if you scream,” said at the start of the debate, “I was too strong, I admit.”
Controversial Comments from Choi Min-hee Spark Debate in Democratic Party
Choi Min-hee, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, faced backlash for saying, “If the lifeless world goes away, you will die.” On November 19, Choi acknowledged the strength of her statement. She addressed reporters on Facebook, affirming her commitment to uniting the party against political prosecutors and defending the party leader, whom she considers a victim of political attacks.
Choi’s comments follow the sentencing of Rep. Lee Jae-myung, which may incite more agitation within party ranks. Lee received a one-year prison sentence and two years of probation for violating election laws.
During an interview, Choi discussed the party’s future. She emphasized whether internal divisions exist and whether the party can maintain unity. She noted that some media outlets have reported movements from non-government members critical of the party. Choi warned, “If you move, you die” and asserted that party members will face consequences.
Choi’s remarks have drawn criticism from both party members and outsiders. Spokesperson Hwang Jeong-ah clarified that Choi’s views do not represent the party’s official stance during a recent press meeting.
