Horner’s Post-Red Bull Future
Following his dismissal as Red Bull Racing team principal after the British Grand Prix in July,Christian Horner,51,explored potential opportunities with other Formula 1 teams.He is free to join a new team by the middle of 2025 after finalizing a severance package with Red Bull on September 22, 2024.
Reports indicate the settlement package was worth €60 million (approximately £52 million), according to multiple sources at Red Bull as reported by BBC Sport.
Team Responses to Horner’s Approaches
Ayao Komatsu, team principal of Haas, confirmed that Horner “approached” the US-based team, but stated, “Nothing has gone any further. It is finished.”
Alpine’s managing director, Steve Nielsen, revealed that Alpine’s executive advisor and de facto boss, Flavio briatore, is “old friends” with Horner. However, Nielsen also noted, “I don’t know what they talk about. Everything I know is there are no plans for Christian to come to Alpine but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.”
Williams, however, did not receive an approach from Horner. Team principal James vowles expressed satisfaction with the current team structure, stating, “We’re very happy with the structure we have and it’s working. I don’t see any reason to change from that.”
