The ⁤once-unshakeable Red Bull Racing empire is⁣ facing an unprecedented crisis, with the recent shock axing of christian Horner marking ⁣a seismic shift in the team’s fortunes. As the furore continues,⁢ former F1 driver Giedo van der Garde believes the Austrian outfit is on the brink of collapse, citing a series of critical errors and key personnel departures as the ‍”death blow” for Horner and perhaps the team’s⁢ dominance.

A Season of Turmoil and Driver Instability

Red Bull’s on-track performance has taken a significant hit this season, struggling⁣ to consistently ⁢secure points for both cars.⁣ This slump culminated in the controversial ⁤dismissal of Sergio Perez, only for his replacement, Liam Lawson, to endure a mere two races before being demoted back to Racing Bulls. Yuki Tsunoda has as climbed ⁤into the second RB21. However, with a meagre seven points from ten races and now on their third driver⁣ in less than a year, criticism of Red ‍Bull has intensified, placing immense pressure on Horner.

Horner’s Shocking Dismissal and the underlying Causes

Horner himself was⁢ reportedly informed of his fate just 12 hours before addressing Red Bull personnel in Milton Keynes, expressing his “shock” at the decision. While no official reason was provided, Van ‍der Garde suggests a multifaceted clarification behind the dramatic move.

“Red Bull has converted this team into a powerhouse,” Van der Garde told Ziggo Sport. ‍”To ⁤then be dismissed like that, there’s clearly more going on than just a dip in form.”

He pointed to a turbulent eighteen months for the team, including the unresolved incident of alleged transgressive behavior. “In addition,⁤ wrong driver choices ⁤have been made,” he continued. “In June 2024, they extended Sergio Pérez, and in ⁤December they fired him and gave him another two years’⁤ salary. They called⁤ up Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson. They both failed. ⁢Yuki Tsunoda doesn’t make anything of it either.”

Van der Garde‍ concluded that these compounding issues ultimately proved to be “a death blow for ‍Horner.”

Verstappen’s Impending Departure and a Crumbling Foundation

Adding to the ‍growing sense of crisis, Van der Garde remains adamant that Max Verstappen is on the verge⁤ of leaving the team, with persistent rumours linking the reigning world champion to Mercedes. He believes Red Bull is poised to experience a significant downturn on the F1 track.

“The Austrians are done with,” he stated, “as the top staff has left. Rob Marshall, Adrian Newey, Jonathan wheatley, and Christian Horner.”

“The next one will be max Verstappen himself. I’ve been saying that for years,” Van⁣ der ⁤Garde asserted. “No one is bigger than the team, but if five key figures from the successful period leave, you don’t just replace them. These ⁤are not⁢ the least names that have left. This is a whole Formula 1 team, which has ‍crumbled.”

Despite the turmoil, Van der Garde ⁤dismissed speculation ⁤that Red Bull might ⁣withdraw from Formula 1. ⁣”They will definitely stay in the sport,” he said. “They know⁣ how to maximise the marketing activities like no other. Competing⁢ for the World title, with a new power unit from Red bull Powertrains and⁣ Ford, is not something you do overnight.”

The departure ⁢of Horner, coupled⁤ with the exodus of ⁤key technical and operational personnel, signals a profound ‍shift for Red Bull. The team that⁢ has dominated Formula 1 for years now faces the daunting task of rebuilding its leadership and⁢ retaining its star driver amidst an escalating internal crisis.
