Christmas Cheer: Santa-Themed Hoarding Brightens Portlaoise’s Derelict Pub
Christmas Hoarding Brightens Empty Pub in Portlaoise
A Laois construction company has added festive cheer to an empty pub in Portlaoise with a Santa-themed hoarding. Workers from Martin Reddin installed the display on the vacant Charlie Keegan’s pub on Main Street.
The vibrant image showcases Santa Claus in his sleigh, along with Rudolf and the rest of the reindeer. This decoration arrives over a year after Laois County Council issued a notice of dereliction for the landmark pub, which has stood empty since 2017.
The local council took action due to concerns about the pub’s deteriorating condition and placed it on the Derelict Sites Register on March 26, 2024. Laois County Council stated that they were not informed about any planned renovations for the property.

This cheerful installation serves as a temporary reminder of the community’s history and adds a festive touch to the area during the holiday season.
