Christopher Kane and Mulberry staged a joint comeback on September 20, 2026, marking Mulberry’s return to the London Fashion Week calendar after a six-year runway hiatus. The collaboration featured spicy leather mini-dresses, heeled loafers equipped with signature postman’s locks, and accessories integrated with miniature axes for heels.
A Strategic Return to the London Schedule
The Spring 2027 collection, titled Mulberry by Christopher Kane, debuted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2026, and is scheduled to arrive in stores and online in January 2027. Mulberry chief executive officer Andrea Baldo stated that joining the calendar serves as a further step in the house’s Back to the Mulberry Spirit strategy. This strategy emphasizes creativity, craft, and rebuilding momentum following pandemic-era retrenchment. Baldo joined Mulberry in 2024 from Ganni. British Fashion Council CEO Laura Weir noted that bringing iconic British brands back to the schedule strengthens London Fashion Week creatively, culturally, and commercially. Mulberry’s runway return aligns with a broader resurgence on the London calendar, which also includes a planned return by Alexander McQueen for Spring 2027.
Design Details and Material Focus
The collection bridges Mulberry’s practical Somerset heritage with Kane’s party-dress sensibility primarily through leather. The presentation included leather sheath dresses, spare leather car coats, and notched hems and necklines inspired by the castellated leather flaps of Mulberry’s Bayswater bags. Kane named the show “Town, city, country,” drawing color inspiration from the industrial concrete and coalminer orange of his native Scotland alongside rustic plaid checks. The partnership follows a period of financial and structural shifts for both entities. Christopher Kane placed his eponymous brand in administration in 2023 following pandemic pressures, while Mulberry contended with slowed profits, price hike missteps, and a takeover defense before appointing Kane as creative director of the women’s ready-to-wear line earlier this year. Under Baldo’s leadership, Mulberry reported a 5.7 percent increase in total constant-currency sales over fiscal 2026, supported by a 13.6 percent jump in the second half of the year.
