CHAM founder Christy Cham has expanded her better-than-basics clothing line with undergarments and playful accessories, featuring long sleeves, tees, dresses, and cardigans already worn by Ariana Grande and Khloé Kardashian, as reported by etonline.com. Before launching the label in 2023, Cham worked as a costume designer on film sets with directors including Martin Scorsese. That background shaped the brand’s focus on second-skin proprietary fabrics and precise proportions designed to translate cleanly on camera.
Designing Better-Than-Basics Apparel Inspired by 1990s Supermodels
When developing the silhouettes, Cham looked to 1990s fashion icons like Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss, and Claudia Schiffer for inspiration. Those ’90s icons are the people who inspired me most when I first started CHAM,
Cham told Entertainment Tonight. The simplicity of the ’90s where the most important thing was fit and fabric is what I’ve always loved.
The line fills a gap in the market for high-end basics that offer more structure than a standard t-shirt without reaching the formality of a blouse.
The apparel features silhouettes incorporating keyhole necklines, slits, off-the-shoulder styles, cutouts, and mini lengths. Cham utilized lessons from film sets to refine the proportions. When fitting actors, everything had to be incredibly precise,
she noted, explaining how proportion strategies can create the illusion of a longer torso or slimmer arms. The color palette spans red, brown, black, cream, navy, orange, and green, selected with softer tones and flattering undertones to allow easy mixing and matching.
Launching New Undergarments and Accessories in West Hollywood
I wanted to create something that was simple, but still sexy that makes a woman feel her best without showing under tight or sheer clothing,
Cham said of the new layer. To personalize the garments, the label also offers a variety of charms that customers can clip onto skirts, tops, or bags, tapping into current playful accessory trends.
