Chrome’s Enhanced Autofill Now Handles More Sensitive Data
Chrome is expanding its autofill capabilities to save users even more time and effort when completing online forms. Beyond addresses, passwords, and payment details-features already available-the browser now securely stores and offers to fill in sensitive information like passport numbers, driver’s license details, and vehicle identification numbers (VINs).This update, rolled out globally as of November 3, 2023, aims to streamline complex online processes.
Improved Form Understanding
The enhanced autofill isn’t just about storing more data types; it also boasts improved accuracy. Chrome is now better equipped to interpret varied form layouts and formatting requirements commonly found across the web, reducing errors and the need for manual correction.
Privacy and Security First
Data privacy is a core consideration. Chrome only saves information with explicit user permission and employs encryption to protect stored data. Crucially, before autofilling any saved information, the browser prompts for confirmation, ensuring users remain in complete control of what is shared.
The rollout includes support for all languages and the advancement team plans to add support for even more data types in the coming months, further enhancing the convenience and security of online form completion.
