CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (April 1, 2025) – the Chicago Heights Middle School (CHMS) 7th-grade boys volleyball team capped off an impressive 15-3 season by winning the South Suburban Junior High School conference (SSJHSC) Championship. The Spartans defeated Columbia Central Middle School in straight sets, 25-13, 25-19.
Road to the Championship
To reach the championship match, the Spartans overcame James Hart Middle School in the semi-finals, also in straight sets, 25-13, 25-19. The conference tournament featured the top four teams from the regular season and was hosted at Chicago Heights Middle School.

“This proved huge for us because we executed that plan to perfection in dominating form,” Kvasicka said. “Once we got the monkey off our back by beating James Hart, we coudl carry that momentum and confidence into a dominating championship performance against Columbia Central.”
Kvasicka emphasized the importance of mental fortitude, stating, “Trying to manage these young men’s minds has always been our biggest challenge. When you have a team where the majority have never played before, the biggest mountain to climb is usually above their shoulders. The physical part is easy. We can teach the fundamental elements of the game, but the hardest thing to do is to incorporate those fundamentals when the bright lights are on, and dealing with the pressures of competition.”
