Chucky Lozano San Diego FC: Out of Team and World Cup
Lozano Removed from San Diego FC Plans Ahead of 2026 World Cup
Mexico’s national team faces challenges in its readiness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup as key player hirving Lozano is no longer in the plans of his club, San Diego FC of Major League Soccer. The decision comes less than six months before the tournament begins.
Tyler Heaps, San Diego FC’s sporting director, confirmed the club has informed Lozano and his representative that they intend to sell him.”We had conversations with him and his representative, owners, leadership and head coach Mikey Varas participated. We communicated that he will no longer be part of our sporting plan and we believe his sale is best for both parties,” Heaps said, according to reports from ESPN .
Lozano, who scored the winning goal against Germany in 2018 – Mexico’s first victory over the team – concluded the previous season following a reported altercation with Varas in the locker room. The club temporarily separated Lozano from the team as a result, according to talent scout Ángel Coca González, who described Lozano as “explosive” and ”a winner, whose character and instability often hinder him,” as reported by Mediotiempo .
Lozano acknowledged that his passion for the game can sometimes lead to strong reactions, as reported by ESPN.
