Chula Vista DUI Checkpoint Nets One Arrest, Multiple Citations
A DUI checkpoint in Chula Vista on Friday resulted in one arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence. The Chula Vista Police Department reported the operation, which took place on the 1100 block of Eastlake Parkway between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m., also led to several citations.
During the five-hour checkpoint, authorities screened 2,535 vehicles. More then 500 drivers where directed to a secondary evaluation area.Of those, two drivers underwent field sobriety tests.
In addition to the DUI arrest, four drivers received citations for either driving without a valid license or driving with a suspended license. Police issued citations to four other drivers for unspecified violations.
The California Office of Traffic Safety provided funding for the checkpoint through a grant administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. These checkpoints are a key component in local DUI prevention efforts.
