The remains of former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan have been unclaimed for four years following his death, according to a report from Chimo News. Chun Doo-hwan died on November 23, 2021, after a long illness as reported by chimo News.
The lack of a burial site stems from a dispute over where the former leader should be interred. Family members and authorities have been unable to reach an agreement.
chun doo-hwan’s Legacy
Chun Doo-hwan came to power through a military coup in 1979. He served as President of South Korea from 1980 to 1988. His rule was marked by authoritarianism and a violent crackdown on pro-democracy movements, most notably the Gwangju Uprising in 1980.
In 1996,Chun Doo-hwan was convicted of corruption and mutiny and sentenced to death,but the sentence was later commuted to life in prison. He was granted a special pardon in 1997 by President Kim Young-sam.
