The Church of Jesus Christ Lends a Hand to Global Healthcare

In the spirit of serving and blessing the body of Christ, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has been stretching its humanitarian reach across continents, most recently touching down in Serbia, Ghana, and Bolivia. Their medical equipment donations, aimed at improving healthcare services and saving lives, have brought hope and relief to struggling institutions and communities.

Niš, Serbia: A NEW LEASE ON LIFE

In the heart of Serbia, the University Hospital in Niš welcomes a new videoendoscopic machine, courtesy of the Church. This high-tech tool allows surgeons to see the operation site clearly, enhancing precision and patient safety. The hospital’s heart/lung machine, donated by the U.S. military, also received a generous boost—both pieces of equipment facilitating better, safer surgeries.

"This is your clinic too now," said Dr. Dragan Milić, director of the Clinic for Cardiovascular and Transplant Surgery, warmly inviting Church representatives to consider the hospital part of their family, and vice versa. The occasion, held on Thanksgiving, was a moment of profound gratitude and unity.

Brigham Young, the Church’s second prophet, was honored with the naming of the Videoendoscopic Center in his name—a testament to his strength and vitality in establishing the Church. As Dr. Milić put it, "President Young was strong and vital for the survival of the Church, just as we pioneers in modern cardiovascular and transplant care are here for our patients."

Volta, Ghana: RAISING THE BAR FOR WELLNESS

Across the globe, the Dabala Community Health Centre in Volta, Ghana, has seen its share of challenges treating common ailments like malaria, bronchitis, and diabetes. But thanks to the Church’s donation of updated equipment, care for the 450 monthly patients is getting a facelift.

At a recent ceremony, the community rejoiced, with local politician Kobena Woyome expressing heartfelt appreciation: "We were just hopeful and operating on faith that one day God would smile beautifully on us, and I think this is the day. The Church has been so friendly to this municipality… With this also happening now, it appears our relationship is forever."

La Paz, Bolivia: FIGHTING FOR NEW LIFE

In Bolivia, the Church has stepped up to help combat infant mortality. A generous donation to the Women’s Hospital in La Paz has equipped the facility with top-of-the-line neonatal incubators, ventilators, and other crucial lifesaving tools. Dr. Marisol Yucra, head of neonatology, enthused that the donation would not only ease space constraints but also save precious lives.

Carlos Vásquez, a local Church leader, humbly represented the Church and underscored the impact of members’ contributions through fasting and tithing: "This donation is possible because of members’ contributions… We thank God for allowing us to make this donation possible to combat the struggles the hospital faces."

As these stories illustrate, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints continues to live out its commitment to serve and bless people of all backgrounds, providing hope and healing worldwide.
