Ciara Doherty and Claire Brock Depart Virgin Media TV: What It Means for Viewers
Ciara Doherty and Claire Brock will leave Virgin Media Television after the weekend’s election coverage. They are the presenters of the current affairs program, The Tonight Show. The station recently reduced the show’s airing from four nights to two nights each week.
Ciara Doherty has worked at Virgin Media for 14 years. She stated that she plans to “move on from late nights and early mornings to begin a new adventure.” Before The Tonight Show, she hosted Ireland AM, the station’s breakfast program.
Claire Brock expressed gratitude to viewers and colleagues. She said, “This weekend I will present my last Tonight Show… It’s been a privilege to work alongside brilliant colleagues and friends over many years.”
In a recent tweet, Brock thanked her team and viewers for their support. She noted that she looks forward to new opportunities and a break from late-night shifts.
At the end of October, Virgin Media announced the reduction of current affairs shows. Managing Director Áine Ní Chaoindealbháin mentioned that market challenges influenced this decision. She emphasized the commitment to public service broadcasting but acknowledged difficulties in securing government support for content.
