Belmont,MI — Carlota Ciganda,35,of Spain,captured the Meijer LPGA Classic on Sunday,marking her first LPGA Tour victory in over eight years.Ciganda’s strong finish, with birdies on the 17th and 18th holes, sealed the win at Blythefield Country Club. This victory highlights Ciganda’s role as a seasoned player on the tour.
Ciganda’s final round of 5-under 67 brought her to a total of 16-under 272. Her approach shot on the par-4 17th landed within a foot of the cup,setting up an easy birdie. She then sank a 4-foot putt on the par-5 18th to avoid a potential playoff with Hye-Jin choi.
“It feels amazing, obviously, after all these years,” Ciganda said.”I knew I could do it, but obviously once the years keep going and you start getting older you start doubting yourself.”
Choi finished in second place. Somi Lee, of South Korea, finished third at 14 under after shooting a 65.
