StudioCanal announced a series of new film projects, including a fourth installment of the Paddington franchise and a reboot of the 1981 action film Escape from New York, during a presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on April 13, 2026.
The announcements were made by StudioCanal executives, including CEO and Canal+ Group chief content officer Anna Marsh and EVP of global marketing and distribution Hugh Spearing, at the Dolby Colosseum in Caesars Palace.
Paddington and Genre Reboots
Anna Marsh confirmed that a fourth Paddington film is currently in development. The studio has hired world-renowned comedy writers
to pen the screenplay, although the specific writers have not been named.
The Paddington series is the highest-grossing independent family franchise, with the first three films—including the 2014 original, the 2017 sequel, and 2024’s Paddington in Peru—generating a combined global box office total of more than $700 million, with some reports citing $730 million.
In addition to the family franchise, StudioCanal is focusing on reimagining genre classics. Hugh Spearing announced that the studio is developing a reboot of John Carpenter’s 1981 dystopian thriller Escape from New York in partnership with producers The Picture Company.
The original 1981 film featured Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken, a federal prisoner tasked with rescuing the President of the United States. StudioCanal has not released further details regarding the plot or casting for the new version.
The studio is also working on a reimagining of Joe Dante’s 1981 horror film The Howling.
Danny Boyle’s ‘Ink’
Director Danny Boyle presented the opening scene of his upcoming film, Ink, which is scheduled for release in 2027. Produced in collaboration with House Productions and Media Res, the film is currently in post-production.

Ink is based on a play by James Graham, who also wrote the screenplay. The film focuses on the history of the British tabloid newspaper The Sun. The plot explores the relationship between publisher Rupert Murdoch and Larry Lamb, the man Murdoch hired to run the paper after purchasing it in 1969.
The cast includes Guy Pearce as Rupert Murdoch, Jack O’Connell as Larry Lamb, and Claire Foy as the women’s editor who later launched Cosmo. Footage shown at CinemaCon depicted Murdoch and Lamb in a London restaurant discussing the strategic direction of the newspaper.
Additional Studio Projects
StudioCanal’s genre label, Sixth Dimension, is preparing several other projects:
- An original thriller titled The Mannequin, starring Melissa Leo and directed by Sean Byrne.
- An adaptation of Matt Haig’s novel The Midnight Library, which is in development with Blueprint Pictures. The story follows a woman who explores alternative versions of her life.
- Upcoming content from Aardman, including Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom.
While StudioCanal produces various English-language films, the company does not handle U.S. Releases directly, instead utilizing parent companies for distribution in the United States. For example, the most recent Paddington film was released in the U.S. Through Sony Pictures.
