WHEELING, W.Va. — Five candidates have announced their bids for the seat on the West Virginia Supreme Court vacated by Justice Beth Walker’s retirement. Among those vying for the position are circuit judges Laura Faircloth and Todd Kirby, retired Circuit Court Judge H.L. “Kirk” Kirkpatrick III, and Wheeling attorney Martin “Red Hat” Sheehan.

Candidates Announced
Judge Laura Faircloth, who currently serves on the Supreme Court as an appointed interim justice, has formally announced her candidacy. She was appointed to the court in January to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of Justice Evan Jenkins. Prior to her appointment, Faircloth served as a Monongalia County circuit judge.

Todd Kirby, a judge on the 17th Judicial Circuit, has also entered the race. Kirby presides over cases in Harrison and Doddridge counties.
H.L. “Kirk” Kirkpatrick III, a retired circuit judge, is seeking to return to the bench. Kirkpatrick previously served as a judge in the 23rd Judicial Circuit, covering Wyoming, McDowell, and Mercer counties.
Martin “Red Hat” Sheehan, a Wheeling attorney, is also running for the seat. Sheehan is known for his work as a personal injury lawyer and his distinctive attire, often sporting a red hat.
David Sims, a judge in Ohio County, completes the field of candidates. He presides over cases in the First Judicial Circuit.
