A discovery via a Google News feed from April 12, 2026, indicates that an individual referred to as Circus Gillis
is scheduled to appear in court twice during the week of April 12, 2026, according to reporting by Eindhovens Dagblad.
While the initial discovery headline originates from a Dutch publication, available professional records provide context regarding a Mark Gillis who transitioned from the entertainment industry into the technology sector. Mark Gillis currently serves as a Principal Consultant at NV5 Global, where he leads the company’s Phoenix office.
Professional Background in Sound Technology
Mark Gillis possesses a technical background in architecture and photography from the University of Arizona. His entry into specialized sound engineering began with mixing sound for bar bands and traveling the club circuit in southern California and the southwest, which eventually led to an engagement in Japan.

His career shifted toward large-scale venue technology when a sound designer for the San Francisco Opera recruited him to assist in building a new sound system for Feld Entertainment’s Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey’s Circus. What began as a six-month commitment evolved into an eight-year tenure with the circus.
During this period, Gillis served as the Sound Operations Manager for multiple circus units and twelve Disney on Ice
performance units. His technical responsibilities included designing and touring with flexible sound systems capable of functioning across more than 300 arenas in the Western Hemisphere.
Verified venues where Gillis configured these systems include:
- Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City
- The Toronto Sky Dome
- Arena Carioca Abelardo Barbosa in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Transition to NV5 Global
Following his decade of work with Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey, Gillis moved into technology consulting with The Sextant Group, which has since become NV5. He has spent nearly two decades with the organization.
In his current capacity as Principal Consultant, Gillis applies his experience with complex, large-scale audio-visual environments to the design of sports facilities, convention centers, and other large venues. His role involves acting as an advocate for architects and owners to deliver sound technical results in environments that often mirror the complexity of a three-ring circus
.
