City Officials: The Beach Boys Cancel Oct. 9 Concert in Bloomington

The Beach Boys canceled their scheduled Oct. 9 performance at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington, Illinois, city officials announced.

Ticket holders who purchased seats directly through Ticketmaster or the Grossinger Motors Arena box office will receive email instructions regarding refunds. Ticketmaster refunds are slated to process within five to seven business days, while fans who bought through third-party vendors must contact those sellers directly. Box office staff are handling additional inquiries at 309-434-2777.

Mike Love Faces Health Challenges and Tour Cancellations

The Bloomington cancellation follows a string of scrapped tour dates over the past three months. Mike Love, the 85-year-old singer who remains the only original member still touring with the group, took time off to recharge following an unspecified health ailment.

In June, Love detailed his physical and emotional toll during a European tour, pointing to bronchitis, COVID-19, and the deaths of his sister Maureen and cousin Brian Wilson. The touring lineup, which frequently features guest John Stamos, managed to play a private show on Oct. 3 at the Waldorf Astoria Monarch Beach in Dana Point, California, where Love performed while seated in a chair onstage.

Remaining Tour Dates Stay on the Calendar

Despite pulling the Bloomington appearance, upcoming performances in other cities remain on the calendar. Shows on Oct. 9 in Cincinnati, Oct. 10 in Calgary, Alberta, and Oct. 11 in Nashville are still scheduled to take place.

Losing my sister, Maureen, on the first Anniversary of cousin Brian’s death, combined with my ongoing recovery from what started out as bronchitis, followed by COVID, has taken both an emotional and physical toll on me.
