Egan-Riley Joins Marseille After Burnley Contract Rejection

CJ Egan-Riley, the England Under-21 defender, is heading to Marseille. The move comes after he turned down a new contract with Burnley.
The 22-year-old defender’s role was pivotal in the Clarets’ successful season. He earned a spot on the Championship team of the season as Burnley achieved promotion to the Premier League, breaking defensive records along the way.
Burnley officials confirmed last week that they offered egan-Riley a “important long-term contract.” Though, the former Manchester City player chose “to pursue an possibility in France,” the club said.
Egan-Riley is currently with England at the European Under-21 Championship. He is expected to join his new club following the tournament.
