Clash of Economic Visions: Harris’ ‘Opportunity Economy’ Takes on Trump’s ‘Tariff Tactic’ in Heated US Presidential Debate
US Presidential Debate: Harris and Trump Clash on Economy
Vice President Kamala Harris and former US President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, attended the first TV debate held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 10th (local time).
During the live debate hosted by ABC News at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Harris emphasized her economic campaign agenda, stating, “I believe in the ambition, aspirations, and dreams of the American people. I will create an economy of opportunity.”
When asked if the economic situation of Americans is better now than it was four years ago, Harris reflected on her life as a middle-class woman born and raised in the United States. She proposed increasing the child tax credit to $6,000 and providing a tax credit for small business startups.
Trump responded by saying, “Under Joe Biden, we will see the worst situation in American history.” He criticized Harris, stating, “Harris has no plan. She is just following Biden.” Trump also emphasized his support for imposing tariffs and expressed concerns about the impact of illegal immigration on American jobs and cities.
Harris countered Trump’s claims, stating, “Under Trump, we have had the worst unemployment since the Great Depression and the greatest threat to American democracy since the Civil War.” The debate highlighted the stark differences between the two candidates’ economic policies and visions for the United States.
