Clash of the Titans: Trump and Harris Go Head-to-Head in Fiery First Debate
Trump Backs 6-Week Abortion Ban in Florida, Sparks Debate
Former President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his support for a 6-week abortion ban in Florida, a move that is set to be put to a vote in the state. This stance has sparked a heated debate, with Vice President Kamala Harris accusing Trump of pushing for a nationwide abortion ban.
Trump responded to Harris’s claims, stating, “She lied again. I will not sign the ban, and there is no reason to sign the ban because we got what the people wanted,” referring to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.
Tax Policy and Trade Wars
The debate also touched on tax policy, with Harris criticizing Trump’s China policy and accusing him of allowing the sale of microchips to China to help Beijing build up its military. Trump countered that the US barely produces its own chips, largely due to the policies of the Democratic administration.
Immigration and Border Security
Trump claimed that ”21 million people” were crossing the border into the US every month under President Biden, a statement that has been met with skepticism. Harris has expressed support for legislation aimed at strengthening border security, while Trump has criticized Democratic border policies, saying immigrants are ”taking over towns… they are coming in violently.”
Assassination Attempt and Blame
Trump also made headlines by blaming Harris and others for an assassination attempt in July, stating, “I probably got shot in the head because of what they said about me. They said about democracy, ‘I am a threat to democracy. They are a threat to democracy.”
Mocking and Criticism
Harris took aim at Trump during the debate, saying “world leaders are laughing at Donald Trump.” She also mocked Trump’s denial that he lost the 2020 election and his claims that the court cases against him were a weapon of the Justice Department.
Ukraine Conflict and Foreign Policy
Trump has vowed to end the conflict in Ukraine if he were president, stating that he would stop the conflict even before he was sworn in. Harris responded by emphasizing that Trump’s declaration would only end the conflict because “he gave up.” She highlighted her own achievements in strengthening Western support for Ukraine, including bringing 50 countries together to support the country.
