Othre AI companies, including OpenAI and Google, offer similar voice chat experiences. Google has Gemini Live, and xAI offers Voice Mode for Grok. These features allow users to interact with AI voice chatbots through speech, creating a more natural and intuitive experience.
Anthropic’s voice mode allows users to discuss documents and images and choose from five voice options. Users can switch between text and voice and view transcripts and summaries of their conversations.
The voice capability has limitations. Free users can expect 20-30 conversations. Paid Claude subscribers can use a Google Workspace connector to access Google Calendar and Gmail. Google Docs integration is exclusive to Claude Enterprise plans.
In March, Anthropic CPO Mike Krieger confirmed the company was developing voice capabilities for Claude. The company was reportedly in talks with Amazon and ElevenLabs to enhance Claude’s voice features. It remains unclear if these partnerships materialized.
What’s next
As the AI voice chatbot market evolves, Anthropic’s Claude voice mode aims to provide a more accessible and versatile AI interaction for its users. The beta rollout will help refine the feature based on user feedback.
