Claudia Sheinbaum Announces Cuitláhuac García’s Strategic Role in Federal Government During Orizaba Visit

During a visit to Orizaba, Veracruz, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that outgoing governor Cuitláhuac García Jiménez will join her federal government team. The announcement came during the inauguration of the new Psychiatric Hospital in Orizaba. Sheinbaum mentioned that García Jiménez will occupy a “strategic” position but did not specify which role.

Sheinbaum expressed her sentiments about García Jiménez’s departure, stating, “He will go to work with me in the federal government.” She promised to share more details about his role later.

At the hospital opening, Sheinbaum emphasized the facility’s role in mental health care, stating it would set an example for the country. She noted the IMSS-Bienestar program, initiated by former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, aims to eliminate corruption in the health sector established during previous administrations.

Sheinbaum highlighted the hospital’s commitment to “humanistic care,” covering prevention to complex diseases. The hospital is equipped with specialized medical teams in psychology and psychiatry and will be the first in the region to offer a public sleep clinic. Starting next year, it will also serve as a training school for mental health specialists, planning to have ten psychiatry residents by 2025.
